Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is divided into 2 main aspects: On Page SEO and Off Page SEO. Each aspect has an impact on your rankings and you should make sure that your website is optimized for both aspects.
You should always start with your On Page SEO as it can have a crucial affect on your rankings and on the number of links you will need in order to rank high. With good On Page SEO you could outrank pages or sites that have 10 times more backlinks than your page or site. In this post I will share the 10 tips that will surly help your On Page SEO.
On Page SEO – 10 Tips That Will Greatly Improve It:
- Domain Name - Getting a domain that has the keyword phrase you are looking to rank for is a very important factor for On Page SEO. When it comes to selecting what domain to choose, you should always look first for .com domains and than look at the .org and .net domains. If you can’t find a domain for your specific keyword phrase, than it would be better to add a suffix to the keyword phrase than to add a prefix.
For example, if you keyword phrase is “Buy Dog Food”, than you should go for buydogfoodtoday.com domain than comebuydogfood.com domain. - Permalink Structure - One of the first things you should do after installing WordPress is to change your permalink structure to /%postname% or to /%category%/%Postname%. This will have a great affect on your on page SEO and it is very simple to do. Simply go to settings and than click on permalinks and add your desired structure on the Custom Structure slot.
- Title Tag - Another very important on page SEO factor and you should enter your keyword phrase into the page title tag. An easy way to do so is to install one of the following 2 plugins: All in One SEO Pack or Platinum SEO Pack. If you are using one of the many premium WordPress Themes that are already SEO optimized, than you will be able to edit your title tag without needing any of these plugins. To name a few of these themes – Thesis, Flexsquezze and Socrates. I have a post that provides a full review for these three WordPress Premium SEO Themes that you can check out.
- H1, H2 and H3 Tags - Try to include your keyword phrase inside your H1, H2 and H3 title tags. Each post title will be your H1 tag so you should look to add your keyword into an H2 and H3 tags inside the contents of your pages or posts.
- Keyword Positioning - It is known that you can learn about the content of a page or site from the first and last sentences. This is why you should insert your keyword phrase into the first and last sentence on your posts and pages.
- Keyword Density - Too little will not help your On Page SEO and too much will simply make your content seem unreadable and will also not help your on page SEO. You should aim for a keyword density of anywhere between 2% to 5%. I personally check my posts and pages keyword density with SEOBOOK Keyword Density Analyzer Tool. You may want to consider installing the great SEO toolbar from SEOBOOK as I am sure it will provide you with great information that you must have if you are doing SEO.
- Bold, Italic and Underline – You should use Bold, Italic and underline on your keyword phrase in every post and page. Try to use all 3 but don’t overdue it and mark all your keyword phrase appearances inside a post or a page. Make sure to use all 3 at first and for every additional 100 words inside your page or post use one of the three again and so on.
- Images Alt Tag and File Name - Be sure to add your keyword phrase into your images Alt Tag and also try to rename your images so the filename of the images will be your keyword phrase. This is very simple to do inside WordPress media gallery and you can also use plugins that will do this for you.
- Content Length - Longer content is better than short content. Writing posts and pages that have long content is far better for your on page SEO than writing very short content. It is even said by Google that writing very short content may even result in penalty, so try avoiding that as much as possible.
- Add NoFollow To Outgoing Links - In order to keep the link juice on your page or site and not lose some of it to other pages, you should always nofollow the outbound links on your posts and pages. Very simple to do, simply add rel=”nofollow” inside the HTML code. Here is an example for a link without nofollow: <a href=”http://dbpmarketing.com”>DBpmarketing</a> and here is what it would look like with the nofollow enabled: <a href=”http://dbpmarketing.com” rel=”nofollow”>DBpmarketing</a>
Making sure your on page SEO factors are optimized is very important and also very easy to do. It would be best for you to insert these 10 tips into your work-flow so you will start doing them on autopilot. Your on page SEO is very important to your rankings and you should do all you can in order to have your on page SEO factors optimized before starting your off page SEO campaigns. This could save you a great amount of time and allow your pages and posts to rank high with much less links than it may take if your on page SEO factors are not optimized.

Hello! Quick question that’s completely off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My blog looks weird when viewing from my apple iphone. I’m trying to find a theme or plugin that might be able to resolve this problem. If you have any suggestions, please share. Cheers!
