My name isn’t Dave Baker. My real name is Dror Bekerman. I am a 30 year old dude from Israel and I make a full time income from affiliate marketing and this blog is a big part of my online business and I finally know what I want this blog to be.
I am not yet ready to reveal that to the world but I can tell you that the rebranding process has already started and this post is probably the first step. Over the past few months I really started to feel bad about the name of this blog and more about the fact that I haven’t been using my real name.
The name of the blog will remain the same (for now) but there is no more reason for me to keep hiding behind the alias name I created for myself.
Why Did I Use An Alias?
I expected you might asked that and I can completely understand where you are coming from with this question. I had 2 main reasons for not using my real name when I started this blog.
Reason One
My name isn’t easy to pronounce for English speaking people and I know that from experience. I was in the USA back in 2004 working in shopping malls and I didn’t use my real name either. It seems that people were having a hard time pronouncing it so I decided to make it easier for everyone and said my name was Dave
.
Actually, and this is quite funny, when English speaking people pronounce my name, it sounds like they are saying, drawer. The problems is that this is funny for everyone else except me
Reason Two
I always wanted to have a blog. I wanted to start a blog for years but I didn’t do anything about it because I didn’t know what I wanted to blog about. 2 things happened that pushed me to finally start a blog. The first was that my big brother started his own architectural visualization blog (guess how he got that #1 ranking) and since we have a very healthy brotherly competition between us, there was no way in hell I would agree to the fact that my brother has a great blog and I don’t
.
The second thing was that I jumped into the internet marketing waters and started promoting Clickbank product launches and doing other things in order to try and make some money online so I thought I knew what I wanted to blog about.
When I first started this blog it was supposed to be a Clickbank product launch authority site. Instead of creating a new site for every product, I would simply create one master site and write about all the various product launches here. Since most Clickbank product launches are crap I didn’t want to use my real name as I wasn’t very happy with what I was doing.
I didn’t like promoting Clickbank product launches and even though it made me money, I later decided to stop doing them or at least be honest about them and not do it just to make some sales. Meaning that if a product sucked I would say so and won’t recommend it. Just like I did with my Google Sniper 2.0 Review.
I think that the name of this blog, dbpmarketing, is a pretty good proof to the fact that I had no idea what this blog would be about. It is a pretty stupid name and I bet you can all guess what the D & B stand for but I dare you to guess what the P means. I would even make it a guessing a game and the first one to guess what the P stands will get $25 from me to his PayPal account.
So the first reason is that I really didn’t know what this blog will turn out to be and I didn’t want to use my name since the first thing I thought about doing wasn’t something I was really proud of.
Bottom Line
I don’t really consider this to be a lie since many people that contacted me personally know that Dave isn’t my real name and the picture you see in the header of the blog is indeed my own. I really started to feel bad about not using my real name and about picking such a bad domain name for the past few months since the blog started to take shape and gain notice that I knew I would come out with it eventually.
It was only a matter of time and that time is NOW
.
As I mentioned before, I am planning to rebrand this blog during 2012, moving to a new domain name that will actually make sense and be related to what I will be blogging about and setting the record straight about my real name is the first step towards that. I still need to check how I should be doing that while not losing any of my current Google rankings.
I hope my reasons make sense and just in case, I am sorry about not using my real name but as far as I see it, I was honest about my reviews and everything else I blogged about so I hope you don’t take it too personally.
Feel free to share your thoughts by commenting below.
Update:
Congratulation to Lior Vaknin for being the first to guess that the “P” stands for production (stupid, I know
). Lior decided to donate his $25 to a great cause and I made the donation on his behalf to Latet organization. I also decided to award Ankush Raj with $25 since he really made an effort to guess the “P” and he pretty much covered all the possible options
.
Thanks.
To your success (and mine
),

Pimp or player?
Good one… But nope
Hey Dave oh sorry I mean Dror
good to see you coming out with your real name now. Just know that we support you and love the awesome content that you give on this blog. Personally, you have already branded the dbpmarketing so you may not really have to change your domain name.. but that’s up to you.
Good luck.. And my guess at the ‘P’ is I can’t figure it out lol. I may give it a try later

Thanks Casey and give the P a shot. I’m interested to see what you will come up with
Hi Dror,
Personally, I don’t think it’s big deal using a pen name on the internet as long as there is no fraud involved. Many Imers operate in multiple niches and use pen names to keep competitors from following their work and duplicating their niches.
My guess is the p stands for product.
Mark
Thanks Mark. The P doesn’t stand for product but it is very close
Hi Dror,
Glad to know your real name
The 2 reasons for not using your real name is fair enough. Does P means penname, haha? I know there are tons of people using a pen name in the online business, some are just make me annoying due to the poor quality of the content.
Look forward to your rebranding of this blog!
Cheers,
Ming

Hi Dave/Dror, nice to meet you but honestly having an alias in internet marketing is absolutely fine as many of them/us are doing it.. Heck, i have several internet names myself..
I still think you are one of the good guys in the IM and that wont change regardless of the name you use.. I think you will have more fans and followers after this.
Cheers! Im still motivated by you.

Hey Dave *ahem* Dror,
This is a really cool post! I found your site recently through your guest post on famous bloggers – found it very inspirational. I personally don’t think there is anything dishonest or to be frowned upon by using a pen name -> Mark Twain did it! My last name isn’t Jackson, it’s actually Sibley. I’m not trying to deceive anyone, nor do I really think it makes much of a difference what my last name is. I too sort of regret using a pen name, but back before I started blogging I was worried about privacy issues and my real name being everywhere which is why I used a pen name. Now I’m pretty established as “Ben Jackson” especially now that Google recognizes me on my blog as such on G+, so I think I’ll prob just stick with it.
Again great post, made me think and I like seeing someone else cover the pen name VS real name topic.
Hi Dror, your name is cool
Does “P” stands from products?
Nope, it isn’t products but that is close
Well hello Dror
I’ve only been following you for the past few weeks but I have to say, I really like your blog and I certainly understand using Pen names. My friend James Chartrand used one for many years. In fact, everyone even thought that she was a “he”. She did it because she believed that men had an advantage in the business field.
I think your domain name is okay, but I do have to admit it’s sometimes hard to remember. Is it “dpd or dbp or…”.
I’ve transferred my blog 2 different times in my blogging career. I have noticed that there’s usually some drop in rankings, but not bad and in fact it’s been relatively easy to build the rank back up. I’ve been using 301 redirects.
Good luck with everything and I’ll definitely stick with you through the change.
Thanks John. I might contact you for some tips on how to do the blog transfer since I haven’t done one yet
Hi Dror,
After watching a couple of your videos and hearing your accent, I assumed Dave wasn’t your real name.
A lot of foreigners change their names to make it easier for us Americans. Not only do Americans have a hard time with names but many are geographically challenged as well. My wife is from Kazakhstan and speaks Russian, so no matter how many times I tell people she is from Kazakhstan, they still believe she is from Russia because she speaks Russian. Even my own family has this problem.
Also, my name is Stacy and I’m a guy. When people see my name, they often assume that I am a girl. I’m not sure if that is worse than being called a “drawer”.
No matter what your name is, just keep doing what you are doing. I think you are doing a great job. I often refer back to your blog because I feel like I can trust you.
Plus, you’ve answered several of my emails when I had a question. I’ll probably have more questions soon.
God Bless,
Stacy

Thanks for the great comment and feedback and feel free to ask away. I am more than happy to help in any way I can.
I almost forgot. Does the “P” stand for pseudonym? It’s the first thing that popped in my mind.
No, that is not what it means
Dror,
You have and always have had good information on your blog. Why make a federal case about this. I don’t mean it in a negative way, but who cares what your name is. If someone is your friend and you know them personally, they already know your name. Otherwise you have a “pen” name for blogging. Big deal. Looking forward to your continued success.
Hi Martin, I agree with you but it still feels better to be using my real name.
Hello Dror, imo p stands for something related to ‘promotion’, maybe Dave Baker Promotes or Promotions
P.S. I knew it lol, using your Google+ account you +1′d your MS revirew
Close but no
And yes, I also liked some of my posts so people could have figured it out on their own
Honesty is the best policy
Welcome to the real world Dror
True that…
Thanks!
Your story is interesting Dror
. I’m happy to hear that you will rebrand this blog with your real name. For what you have done to us, We always follow your steps and support you. I truly believe that your blog will become a big brand in the IM world.

Nope
Hi Dror,
I hear yea well, I have a similar situation here. My real name is Artur, but the native english speaking folks cannot even pronounce that properly, so I am using Arthur.
I want to have my own blog as well, but arthur.zablocki.com – just does not really give me enough confidence to go for it.
In the IM world, I think it is easier to get noticed if you are american – despite that, I know a few guys from around the world, who are really successful.
I have something I bit more personal, I wanted to talk to you about, what email address it is best to catch you on?
PS. I am glad that you are in Israel – it would be easier for me to reach you due to a smaller time zone difference

Hey Dror, whether we know you as Dave or Dror, your subscribers know you as a guy who is straight up, honest about the IM products you have experience with and even more importantly, honest about the ones you don’t. The fact that you felt compelled to ‘come clean’ about your real name shows that your integrity goes even further than IM, considering how common pen names are in this industry. Anyone who takes offense needs to get over themselves
I’m glad to read you feel that way. You pretty much summed it all up for me, thanks
Either private or popular?? I really need that!
Or power
Sorry but nope. None of the three you guessed
Does P stand for Personal?
No.
Dror, how about “provide” or “present” or “presents”?
Hi Steve, nope, nope and nope
Sorry about this and by no means do I think your blog is what I think P means.
P for pointless?
lol
Good one but i’m glad to say no
Bonsoir Dror,
I’m glad you decided to use your real name. I did the same thing and was sorry. Then, I had to explain to my readers just like you are doing now. It all worked out OK. People are very understanding.
I’ve followed your blog, and advice, for quite some time now and you are one of the “teachers” I respect. Another one is Ben Jackson and I see in the comments that he also uses a pen name. LOL
Does the “P” stand for pretend?
Good luck with the changeover. I don’t think you will have any problems.
Renee Benzaim
Thanks Reneee. The P doesn’t stand for pretend
P = Production/Pretend/Professional/Passion ?

The P means Production(s)…
The “P”
Because it is a internet marketing site, I would probably go for PASSIVE (passive income).
But now I know a little about your background I would say P stands for PROGRESSIVE (like outside of the box marketing.
Cool ideas Russ but no…
Hi Dave/Dror,
Your blog has brought me amazing info on what works and what doesn’t in the IM world and most of your recommendations are really valuable and helped me a lot in my journey.
I always wondered what the p stands for… my guesses are pro, professional, promotional?
Thanks Zack but your guess are wrong
sorry…
When you do change the domain over, I think that it would be a good blog post detailing how you did it while keeping your site authority, etc.
Don’t worry Adam, I will surly write a post about that.
Don’t care if your name is Dror, Dave or Major Dibbles – you have a great blog dude

No, but the actual word does start with PRO…
Dror, does P stand for “powerhouse “? Maybe a tip left on one of your comments…

“Professional” of course

I wanted to ask something else, in fact i am getting interested in the “pingback power” plugin, but i would a way to automate the indexing. Do you have an idea how one could go about that, eg. if you get a pingback back to automatically index the content from the blog (network) where the ping came from?

Hi Dave, upss.. Dror

You guessed wrong Sandy. Sorry
I agree with the other posters, this shows what an honest good man you really are! The fact that you follow your heart and do what “feels right” instead of just thinking about the money and all that, is the reason why your blog (and your name) has the potential to become very well known in the IM world. This is what we newbies desperately need; the truth! Sadly this is also the hardest part, to find the “good guys” of IM… I’m happy to say that I’ve found one, and his name is Dror Bekerman!
About the p… I saw that somebody already said promotion and that wasn’t it. What about promotional? As in Dave Baker’s/Dror Bekerman’s Promotional Marketing?
That is exactly what i’m trying to do. To be different than the regular scamarketers in the IM world. Glad to know its working
And no, the P doesn’t mean promotional…
P=pig lol. I’m sorry haha. just kidding

Hello Dror,
I have been following your blog in my RSS Reader for past 2 months. I find it very interesting and informative. While, I appreciate your revealing your real name, I don’t think it is such a big deal to feel sorry about. Moreover, changing a successful domain to match a new identity is also not necessary IMHO. The name is also DPB which, in any case, the acronym of your real name. I think you should carry on this blog as, in the current marketing scenario, the branding is becoming more important than a mere domain name.
Regarding, the P in the name, was it a named on some Holywood Studio like “Dave Baker Productions” present IM 2.0 starring Tom Cruise
Cant believe!! Wooooow!!!!!!! Thanks a lot Dror!!! Thanks a lot for the bonus!!!
I know it very well that you’re the most honest marketer out there. But you proved that today that you are the most soft-hearted person also
You would without any doubt will acheive the top spots of IM with these attitudes, am not saying this because you gave me $25dollars, but because you’re a nice hearted human.
Thanks
Dude, I don’t think you did anything wrong by assuming a pen name all this time. The fact is you run a great site with honest reviews and that’s what keeps me coming back over and over again. Keep kicking ass Dror!
Will do… Thanks
I think the p stands for paypal lol

You should have kept your pen name, silly move. There is nothing wrong with pen names.
Hi Bence, can you maybe explain a little more why you think it was a silly move? I would really love to know.
Thanks for your honesty.
Because your pen name sounds so much better lol. And you already used it in other places, like in your guest posts, comments on other blogs etc. This move just creates confusion.
You do have a point there but I knew about the problems it might cause and i’m willing to live with them… I hope that with time all these issues will go away and I preferred to do this now before my blog got too big and popular

From a PR standpoint, coming clean about your real name can be a great attention-getting move. “Respected marketing professional says, ‘I’m tired of hiding behind an alias and living a lie.’”
