Market Samurai is probably the favorite keyword research tool for most internet and affiliate marketers and for good reason. Market Samurai is truly an amazing tool that really became a must have if you are into internet marketing.

In the following review I will go over the most important feature of Market Samurai as I see it and as I use it daily for my internet marketing needs.

Market Samurai Overview

Market Samurai Modules

The full version of market samurai is built with 8 working modules and one future module (not sure when it will be released as it is coming soon for well over a year now ). I am pretty sure that most Market Samurai users are not making full use of all the 8 modules the software has to offer.

If I had to guess than I would say that the most commonly used modules are:

I am making this guess mainly because these are the main modules I am using with Market Samurai and from what I hear from other users. I will focus my review on these modules as I am most familiar with them and they are the heart and soul of the software. Plus, you can find all the information you need about the other modules in the Market Samurai Dojo.

The way I see it, you can complete an entire keyword/niche research campaign using only these 4 modules and that is what I love so much about Market Samurai. It allows you to conduct the most comprehensive keyword/niche research very easily and very efficiently.

Keyword Research Module

Market Samurai Keyword Research module is the heart and soul of the software and what really sets it apart form the competition. Keyword Research is the most important aspect in internet and affiliate marketing as if you are getting the keyword wrong, it really doesn’t matter what you will do later as all your efforts will be wasted.

I can explain and show how to use the keyword research module but I think that will simply be a waste of your time as you can get the best step by step video tutorials in the Market Samurai Dojo. You will find a video about every aspect of the keyword research tool allowing you to fully understand how to make the most of it.

It is important to remember that Market Samurai will only show you numbers and stats. It will not tell you which keyword is good to go after. You will still need to make the decision on your own. With Market Samurai, making the right decision becomes much easier as you are getting all the important information you need.

The new addition of adding presets (Marked with a RED Arrow in the image below) is really great as it saves time and allows you to enter your own “magic” presets that you have found to provide you with the best keywords.

SEO Competition Module

Keyword research is the first step but you never know if getting ranked for a specific keyword is doable if you don’t analyze the competition. There is no point in trying to rank for very competitive keywords and the only way to find out about the competition is to do the research.

This can be done manually using Google and tools such as SEO Quake but that simply takes too much time. With the SEO Competition module of Market Samurai you will get all the information you need about the top 10 competing websites for any keyword phrase.

In the image below you can see the SEO Competition results for the keyword – Market Samurai:

As you can see, you are getting all the information you need. The information is divided to Off Page factors (RED ARROW) and On Page factors (YELLOW ARROW).

The use of colors is in order to provide a quick understanding for the level of competition. The more RED boxes you see means stronger competition and the more GREEN boxes you see means the competition is small.

However, don’t make your decision based on the colors alone and be sure to check everything. The more important factors to check are the PageRank and number of links to the page (BLP) and to the domain (BLD).

You can do a more comprehensive research about each of the sites backlinks.

All you need to do is to click on the small arrow on the left of the DA column (marked with RED) and you will be able to analyze the backlinks to the page. You can perform a PR analysis which will show you how many links are coming from each PageRank and you can also perform an anchor text analysis which will show you all the anchor texts being used for the links and their count.

There is no clear formula that you can use in order to determine if you can rank for the specific keyword as this is a skill you need to develop and improve overtime.

Update – Market Samurai Backlink Data Changes

On February 24th Market Samurai announced a major update to their software that effects mostly the SEO Competition and Rank Tracker modules.

The update basically means that Market Samurai has stopped using Yahoo Site Explorer to gather all backlink data including BLP, BLD and BLEG and they are now using Majestic SEO.

This update means that the backlink numbers showing in Market Samurai now are more accurate than before. Just check the following screenshot takes from the SEO Competition for the keyword Market Samurai and compare it to the screenshot above and you will see exactly how big of a change this is:

This update is not yet perfect and there are some limitations as mentioned on the Market Samurai Blog:

There are however some limitations. The data that we have access to cannot provide a list of backlink sources so we will continue to provide Anchor Text Analysis and Page Rank Analysis using the Yahoo! Site Explorer website. Also, while we are able to provide the number of backlinks for .edu and .gov sites, we cannot provide a list of the backlink sources as this information is only available through a paid Majestic SEO account.

Rank Tracker Module

If you are doing any type of SEO than you are probably checking your search engine rankings on a daily basis. There are many tools and services that can help you find your rankings, but the Rank Tracker module of Market Samurai is by far my favorite.

Using the Rank Tracker is very easy. Just follow these 3 simple steps:

1. Add Domains – Click on the Add Domains (RED) and enter at least one domain you want to check the rankings for.
2. Add Keywords – Click on the Add Keywords (YELLOW) and enter all the keywords you want to check how the domain you entered in step one is ranking for.
3. Update Rank Date – Simply click on the Update Rank Data (GREEN) and the results will show up.

You can see results from Google, Yahoo and Bing as well as your ranking for Phrase Match Results. Keep in mind that the more options you tick the longer it will take for the software to show you the results.

After you get some results you can keep track of how well you are doing:

All you need to do is to click on the graph icon on the right (marked with RED) and a new screen will show up at the bottom providing you with various options (marked with GREEN). This screen will allow you to see the changes in rankings, backlinks and PR over time in a great looking graph display .

Every time you update your rank data the information is saved and you can keep track of your progress.

Market Samurai Rank Tracker is really great and easy to use and more importantly, it seems to be very accurate which is not something I can say for other rank tracking tools I used.

Domains

In order to make Market Samurai truly complete for the entire keyword/niche research process, the guys at noble samurai combined their domain samurai tool with market samurai.

This was an obvious choice to make and I am glad they did as many other Market Samurai users that requested the addition of the domain samurai module into the market samurai.

The domains module allows you to search for a domain for the keyword you managed to find after going through the keyword research and SEO competition stage. Once those stages are finished you know if you have a keyword that you are going to go for it and build a niche site around it or not. If you did find a keyword worth pursuing your next step would be to find the best possible domain and that will be an exact match domain.

All you need to do is follow these simple steps:

1. Enter your seed keywords (GREEN)
2. Select domain variations, domain TLD’s and add domain filters if you want (RED)
3. Click find domains (BLUE)
4. Pick the domain you want (BLACK). You can pick a new domain or signup for a free Domainface account and select an aged domain that fits your needs.

Market Samurai Dojo

Market Samurai Dojo is where you will find all the information you need about how to make the most out of Market Samurai. All the information is presented to you in video format and in text with images, so you really can’t go wrong.

If you go and check out the blog you will see it is being updated very regularly and you will also see that the guys over at Noble Samurai are usually posting valuable information about changes and/or updates to the software or to the search engines.

The Market Samurai blog is a great place to find important information and usually you will find answers to problem you are having allowing to save the time it takes to submit a support ticket (not that it takes too long).

Market Samurai Support

Market Samurai has probably the best support system from any other software or tool I ever used. The support section provides you will all the help you need in order to learn how to use the software and/or how to solve any problem you are having with it.

The best part of the support section is the Market Samurai Forum. The forum is filled with very valuable information and you will get answers to any problem you have very fast. Whenever you have a problem, the Market Samurai Forum should be the first place to go for a quick solution.

Update: Market Samurai Problems (February 2012)

Since Market Samurai and any other similar keyword research tool depends on Google and other sources to get all the information it quite common that few of the features don’t work 100% from time to time. That is really not a big deal since the guys over at Noble Samurai are really quick to release updates that fixes any problem. Since I have Market Samurai there have been hundreds of updates and that just shows you how much Google and the other sources are always tweaking and changing things and also how great the support is for Market Samurai.

In early February 2012 Market Samurai experienced a major problem and some people even went as far as saying that the end of Market Samurai has come. I just want to let you know that Market Samurai is till here and it doesn’t seem like it is going anywhere. Although the problem was indeed a major issue unlike regular problems, it was fixed within days and all the modules of Market Samurai are 100% operational except for the Rank Tracker module which was the only module to be effected.

Google’s recent changes mean that Market Samurai can no longer viably pull rank data for their user base which is well over 400K users in total. It will simply cost too much. They are looking for a replacment service for the Rank Tracker module and i’m sure it will be added to the software within a few weeks. This change will probably mean that a monthly fee will be needed in order to use the Rank Tracker module but the price level hasn’t been determined yet, and in any case, this will be completely optional.

I personally stopped using the Rank Tracker module a few months ago and I also wrote a post about 10 Keyword Rankings Tracking Tools that I tested in order to find the best one for me. My main concern was to find a tool that will be able to update the rankings automatically.

The bottom line is that you shouldn’t be concerned about the problems with Market Samurai. The support is always on top of things and everything is working 100%.

Market Samurai Review – Conclusion

The way I see it having a good keyword tool is a must for any internet marketer and the best tool available is Market Samurai. I personally love that I can do all of my research using one tool. I can do the keyword research, analyze the competition, find a domain and track my rankings.

The fact that you can get a Market Samurai Full Version for a 12 day trial should make this a real no brainer. You really have nothing to lose and plenty to gain.
