What’s Working Now

I have written many reviews on this blog (probably too much) but I really do try to be as honest as possible and review only services and tools I have used and tested myself. I will be the first to admit that when I first started this blog, my only intention was to make money writing these reviews but that has changed. I can promise you that and if being ranked number one for one of the biggest launches in 2011 of Google Sniper 2.0 and ending up not recommending it is not proof enough than I don’t know what is.

Another important thing that is constantly changing is the internet marketing and SEO world. It is a dynamic world and the things (services and tools) that worked a few months ago like gangbusters might not be so good today and 2012 is a clear proof for this.

This is exactly why I decided to create this very important, What’s Working Now page. This page will be updated from time to time and will only show what’s working great for me now in my online business and my online endeavors. I hope that this page will put things in a better perspective and will help you get a better understanding on what is working for me now.

Important To Understand

It is true that with SEO you will bring in what is commonly considered as FREE organic traffic but please don’t think you can start building websites, doing SEO and making thousands (or hundreds) online without the need to invest money upfront.

That means putting money on the table before you see any from your efforts.

I won’t say you can’t make money online without investing first because I don’t know. It might be possible but it just doesn’t sound to me like something most people can achieve and I don’t think it is something you should aim for.

If you understand that you will need to invest money and time upfront before you see any income than you are set to go. If you don’t understand this I think your chances for success are much smaller.

Content Creation

What’s Working NowContent has always been important but after the latest Google Panda and Penguin updates it seems it is now more important than ever. For me, I use content for 2 separate purposes:

  • For SEO and link building
  • For my various niche sites

SEO & Link Building Content

I know that people are running away from spun content recently after the latest Google updates but I don’t think that you should run away from every spun content. It can still be used and provide great results, you just need to be sure you are using high quality spun content and there are 2 resources I know and use for this purpose.

The Leading Articles - If you visited my blog before than I assume it won’t be a surprise that the first content solution I used for SEO and link building are the Ultra Spinnable Articles and the Ultra Spinnable Minis. In case you don’t know what these services are than I recommend you read my Ultra Spinnable Articles Review and my Ultra Spinnable Minis Review so you will have a better understanding of what these services will provide you with and why I am still making full use of them.

Article Builder – Jonathan Leger has great products and services and it is no secret I really love the stuff he puts out there. Article Builder is no different and a great addition to his massive collection of services. I recommend you check out my Article Builder Review so you can learn more about how it can help you with content creation.

Site Content

For the content you are going to use to post to your various authority and/or niches sites you can’t really cut corners in my opinion. You will need good quality unique content and you have 2 options as far as I see it:

Write It Yourself – I don’t think I need to write too much about this option What’s Working Now .

Outsource – Not all of us are great writers and even those who are, can’t really enjoy writing about every topic and it is also very time consuming. The solution for this is to outsource your content writing.

I’m not going to provide you with an outsourcing guide since I don’t consider my self to be an authority on the subject and because I really don’t think it is rocket science. Just understand that it is a process and that it will take a little time for you to master. Your first attempts might not turn out too good but I promise you that as long as you stick with it you will find the right people to work with and you will save tons of time and money in the long run.

Here are some personal recommendations for where to look when outsourcing content:

Fiverr

Text Broker

oDesk

Elance

Warrior Forum

Feel free to add more recommendations if you know of any by commenting below. I’m sure everyone will be very grateful What’s Working Now .

SEO and Link Building

This is probably the section most visitors to this page will want to read. 2012 has been a very busy year when it comes to SEO with all the changes and updates Google has rolled out.

SEO isn’t dead yet and from what I manage to gather, it might even become easier than it was in early 2012.

Sounds strange, ah?

Here is how I see it. The biggest impact all the major changes Google made during 2012 is FEAR. I think it was more of a physiological warfare than anything else. This FEAR is what caused many wannabe SEO’s to feel lost and stuck and they just stopped building links.

What most people doing SEO are asking themselves is what links should I build now and how I should go about getting those links and not having a specific answer for these questions causes them do to nothing.

I know because I’ve been there.

The thing is that we actually know the answers to these questions but that FEAR that Google managed to create stops us from realizing it.

Build Your Own Blog Network

I’ve asked a few of the SEO’s and internet marketers that I respect and follow what they think of the Google changes and what will they recommend doing and most said that building your own private blog network is the one of the ways to go.

This is of course not something everyone can or should do as it is not something that takes time to build and need to be done right so all your effort and money won’t go to waste. I can tell you that I planned on building my own private network a while back, before Google implemented their changes but I ended up not doing it which something I regret.

What’s Working NowOutsourcing

There are many people out there that know SEO and how to build links post Google Panda & Penguin and will do it for a very low hourly or fixed price.

Just check Elance or oDesk and you will find thousands of applicants. You probably won’t find the best ones on your first project but as you do it this more you will get better at it and that is something you must master if you really want to build a business that will grow and last for a long time.

You just simply can’t do everything yourself and even if you could, there is only so much one person can do. Learning how to outsource is probably what made my business grow the fastest and brought me great results.

Don’t over think it and just start.

WordPress

What’s Working NowWordPress is the only platform I am using for all the sites I am creating as I am sure that is the same case for you. If it isn’t, than I would love to know why.

WordPress Themes

Under themes I would like to recommend two great themes I purchased recently and I simply love them. Each theme is designed for a specific purpose and both themes deliver.

OptimizePress – This theme is all about helping you create squeeze pages, landing pages, sales funnels, product launches and membership sites easy and fast.

Heatmap Theme – I recently got back to building AdSense monetized niche sites and I decided to get the PRO version of the Heatmap Theme as I previously only used and recommended the free version. I can know say that you should get the PRO version as it is much more powerful and feature packed than the free version.

Be sure to read my Best AdSnese WordPress Theme posts in order to learn what the Heatmap theme is so great and why I recommend it for those that are building niche websites. The main reason I love it is that it is very customizable and comes with more than 20 ready made, drag n drop, widget positions so adding ads and banners is as simple as it can be.

Thesis – I can’t recommend WordPress themes without mentioning the great theme I use to run this blog. I am using Thesis and I love it. The main problem with thesis is that if you don’t know how to code it might be difficult for you to get it to look different than all the other thesis based sites out there. This is where Thesis Skins come into play and it took me a while to find a skin that I really love and that gives me all the options and features I need (and more) and the skin I am using on this blog is called BlogSkin by ThesisAwesome.

WordPress Plugins

The second major part and what makes WordPress so great is the ability to use plugins. I would like to share with you some of the plugins I think you should be using on your blogs.

WordPress SEO by Yoast – Forget about All in one SEO or headspace. WordPress SEO by Yoast is the best SEO plugin for WordPress and you should not be using any other plugin and if you are, make the switch. If you don’t know who Yoast is, than I recommend you find out by visiting his blog at Yoast.com. Don’t be intimidated by all the options that you will see, here is a simple guide that will show you exactly how to setup this plugin.

Automatic Bonus Delivery Plugin – If you are promoting Clickbank products and you are using bonuses as a way to get people to buy from you than you would probably want to know that you can automated the entire bonus delivery process. This is another great WSO purchase I made and it will also save you tons of time as your bonuses will be atomically delivered. Easy and short setup and your buyers will get their bonuses and will even be added to a buyers list (if you want) on autopilot without you needing to waste your valuable time.

W3 Total Cache – Loading speeds is becoming more and more important and it is definitely something you should start paying attention to on your blogs and sites. The W3 Total Cache is the best caching plugin and it will improve your sites performance. Since it is a very complex plugin with many options and features I recommend you read the following guide on how to set it up. Be sure to check your site loading time before and after you enable the W3 Total Cache plugin so you will be able to see the huge difference it can make.

BackupBuddy – After being hacked once and the site getting bigger I knew I needed a better backup solution than the free backup plugins that are out there. After some research I decided to go with BackupBuddy and I am more than happy with my decision. Being able to automatically backup everything (widgets, themes, plugins and SQL database) and also send it to Amazon S3 and/or Dropbox made my life easier and I know that my blog is safer now since I can restore everything with a click of a button if something really bad happens. Be sure to read my BackupBuddy Review to find out all the reasons that helped me choose this plugin over the competition.

Hybrid Connect – There are many list building WordPress plugins out there but this one is the winner in my book. You can check my Hybrid Connect review or visit the official website to learn all about the various features that makes this plugin the winner in its category.

Books

What’s Working Now4 Hour Workweek – This is my current bible. Read it 3 times and I learn new things every time I read it. I love Tim Ferriss and I love the type of lifestyle he is living and showing how he was able to achieve it in this amazing book.

Do The Work – This is an amazing book written by Steven Pressfield that really hit home run with me. You can read my thoughts of the book on my Do The Work – Overcome Resistance post I wrote after finishing the book for the first time.

The War of Art – Another book by Steven Pressfield. After reading Do The Work I had to read this book and as I expected, it is another masterpiece. The biggest obstacle we have in life is ourselves and this book will show you how to go about winning your inner battles.

4 Hour Body – This is the second book written by Tim Ferriss. It is not about online business and making money but I still think it is great and I enjoyed reading it. I am sure everyone can find some great topics inside this book. If you haven’t watch the book trailer (yes, this is the first book with a movie trailer) than you really should check it out on YouTube.

Steve Jobs – The official biography of Steve Jobs, written by Walter Isaacson. Steve Jobs made a dent in the universe like only a selected few have been able to. I really enjoyed reading his biography and I learned a lot about him like how big of a role LSD had on his life What’s Working Now . Great book about a truly great man. Don’t miss this one.

Hey just wanted to know for the Authority Link Network and ArticleRanks Website i needed to give them some hosted website or it can work without being hosted?

Reply

Dave September 19, 2011 at 10:00

Hi,

For ALN you must add your own website in order to use the network (but I know this will change soon and you will have the option to pay monthly without adding any sites) and with ArticleRanks you can either add sites or pay a monthly fee in order to submit articles.

Dave, how do you actually verify if the PR of an aged domain is real or fake? I simply type the url in the Google search box and make sure that the domain shows up in position #1 – is this simple technique sufficient to verify PR?

Also, how much do you typically pay for a PR2 domain?

Thanks for your great blog post & the best and most in-depth product reviews you can find on the web.

A lot of beginners read your site and look for advice here. I think it would be prudent to explain the difference between posting quality content to a blog as opposed to auto blogging products that post garbage to thousands of spammy sites. Or, point them to the warrior posts that talk about using these products with 2nd and 3rd tier sites and the use of proxies.

It is very easy to get carried away with all of the products that promise thousands of back links. Although the Google bots are artificial intelligence, they have an “artificially” high IQ. Like Santa Claus, Google know when you have been bad and knows when you have been good. You can fool Google a bit but eventually, you will get coal in your stocking.

Reply

Dave November 14, 2011 at 00:23

Hi Martin,

Not quite sure what you mean by being prudent. Do you mean that what I am posting won’t help beginners or that it might confuse them?

Reply

Martin November 14, 2011 at 04:17

I mean it might be confusing. What you write on your site is immensely helpful to beginners and experienced marketers as well.

There are tools that can kill a lot of hard work. Getting 1000 blog links sounds great. But, if they are from spam farms and similar sites, it does not do much good.

I like Scrapebox (I know you do not push it here). You can do great things with it or get your site delisted. Its like a gun. You can put meat on the table or accidentally blow your neighbors head off . Really easy to follow some YouTube videos with Scrapebox and have your money site disappear. I think that auto-blogging tools are potentially dangerous unless you read the warning label.

You are one of the few who seem to really care about what you offer and reach out in a sincere way to everyone. You have built up trust with your blog followers and that is better than money in the bank. I guess what I am saying is that I think you are in a great position to write the warning labels.

Reply

Dave November 14, 2011 at 11:03

I completely agree. The bottom line is that a tool is still only a tool and how it performs depends on the one using it.

I do try to be as helpful as I can and I really appreciate your great feedback about me and my blog.

Hi Dave,

How many ultra spin articles do you submit to Aln, article ranks and Unique Article Wizard a day to get good results? I am testing this, but would love to hear what you think is best.

Reply

Dave November 19, 2011 at 14:40

Hi Rob,

ALN is easy since you are limited in your submission and also every article only gets published 15 times so I submit the max amount I can which will depend on the number of blogs you add to the network.

About ArticleRanks and UAW I really can’t give you an exact number that gets good results. It depends on alot of things but mainly on the domain age and the level of competition for the keyword you are targeting. Best advise I can give you is to test it out and see what works for you but don’t overdo it especially to new sites.

You didn’t use any of these networks before? Which networks did you use if I may ask?

Rob November 19, 2011 at 19:27

Hi,
I have been using these services by posting a few USA’s a day, but had a few problems with article ranks not liking general spun transition texts containing my links. How do you add your links to the USA’s so its not seen as spam?

Thanks

Reply

Dave November 19, 2011 at 21:07

I use the MTUSP’s in order to add links to the articles I submit. Didn’t have any problem with ArticleRanks doing that.

Reply

Rob November 19, 2011 at 21:17

Thanks, I might give them a go and see how many I can submit a day without getting flagged.

Hi Dave, have you stopped using TK? If so, is there any reason for that?

Thanks.

Reply

Dave December 14, 2011 at 02:52

Hi Jack, I did stop using TK for now since it doesn’t really work with the USA’s and I don’t intent to write article specifically for TK. It doesn’t say anything bad about TK, just that I don’t have the time to create articles that will get approved by it.

Reply

Robin December 15, 2011 at 22:48

Have you tried taking snippets of USAs and mixing them together? I wonder if this would still work in TK.

Reply

Dave December 15, 2011 at 23:02

Hi Robin, I stopped using the USA’s with TK. It is basically like guessing and you have no idea if an article will be approved or not and since it takes time to submit the article and get the result (approved or not) it is simply not worth the time. I am working with Article Builder and those articles are getting approved 90% of the time which is great plus you have a much larger variety of categories to choose from.

Thank you for the quick list of tools and your experience and expertise.

My question is about Sniper sites, affiliate site and authority sites. Are all these sites different? If so how are they different, how does the article spinning affect the content and latent semantic indexing.

The real question is can you make money with all these different ways and how? What are your best income producing sites.

Lot of questions but there is a lot of information out there and it becomes confusing who to listen to .

Thank you for your help.

Hi Pete,

The sites you mention are both different and the same. Sniper sites are usually affiliate sites and also authority sites can also be called affiliate sites if you will monetize them with affiliate links.

The difference between a sniper site and an authority site is the focus. A sniper site usually focuses on one main keywords and would be a small site with a number of content pages/posts while an authority site focuses on a bigger niche (more than one keyword) and would be filled with content and will keep adding content all the time.

You can make money with both type of sites.

I recommend you read one of my latest posts called Stop Overthinking. Start Doing!

I think and hope it will help you.

Hi Dave,
Hope I’m not asking too many questions, but you have a great site and I’m learning a lot! :)

You mentioned that you use ALN and AR for free by submitting PR3 blogs you
purchased. Could you tell me if you have lost any PR since you bought the sites?
I’ve read that is what many people experience after they buy a site.

And, how much did you need to spend to buy enough PR sites to get the submissions you we’re targeting
per day? Ie Four PR3 sites at $300 a piece would mean $1200. That would seem like a good investment
being that you would break about even the first year compared to if you paid paid over $100/month for
some of these monthly backlink services.

Reply

Dave December 25, 2011 at 12:59

Hi. Yes, it can happen and it did happen to me even though I did check everything in order to avoid losing PR.

I don’t know where you got the $300 price tag for a PR3 site. That is not even close. PR3 will go for $50-$100. For $300 you can get PR5 sites.

Hi Dave,

I’ve been trying to find a domain and seems to be a little challenging.
I saw Shane’s videos and thanks for referring them. I think you
said you found your domains at Digital Point Forum? Was
that a quick and painless way to go?

Since the owner at ALN (on WF ) said we should get a domain
with at least 30 unique backlinks that seems a rarity of the PR5
domains I’ve researched about 30 or so.

I read that many folks who buy these domains that are dropped
lose their PR one the next PR update. So I’m thinking if I can
buy it from an owner before they lose it AND keep their content
that would be the way to go. Also, update their content ASAP
and on a regular basis to maintain PR.

Your thoughts?

BTW, I don’t know why but the email notification never sends
me an email when someone comments even if I check the
box below. I’ll check my spam folder to be sure.

Dave December 30, 2011 at 02:38

Hi Dean,

I did purchase my domain from digital point forum and it wasn’t a real big deal, but that was quite some time ago and most of them did drop in PR at some point.

Purchasing aged PR domains is a process that requires a lot of research and patience. I didn’t buy too many domains so I can’t really help you with this one any more than I have.

I would recommend you try to find some PR2 or PR3 domains. They will cost less and in case they lose PR it will also hurt less :)

About the notification, I really don’t know what the problem is but I will try to figure it out. Thanks for letting me know.

Dave, what do you think about a PR6 (verified) no drops, 3 years old, no backlinks, no content just getting the domain, for $150?
Since it has no backlinks and just a place holder page my guess it could die in PR anytime soon, but little surprised in about 2 years
it hasn’t. I wonder if building content now and backlinks could keep it alive. Big G is smart and knows better but who knows.

Dave January 3, 2012 at 11:32

If it has no backlinks than it won’t stay PR6 for long. Why pay $150 for that?

I wouldn’t touch it.

Hi Dave,

A couple months ago I hired a guy from the Philippines to work 20 hours a week for me building a blog. He writes all the articles and does some backlinking as well. I’ve already signed up for Build My Rank and have about 150 links from there already.

I have a few Google page one rankings but these keywords turned out to be not so good in terms of Adsense income. One of my keywords went to #2 for about a day and I earned over $20 in two days from Adsense. Then Google dropped me like a rock. A week or so after that, one of my other main keywords was in the top 3 on Bing and Yahoo. That made me about $5 a day for several days, then I got dropped by Bing and Yahoo.

I’m trying to decide a plan of action but I don’t want to break the bank either. I can’t afford all the tools you mention on this page that’s for sure. Since I’m already a member of Build My Rank, do you think using it alone might be enough to achieve page one rankings. Several of my keywords that dropped are already back to page 3 or better.

Eventually, I would like to use some of the other products you mention here but I want to try and turn a profit first. Any suggestions you have would be much appreciated.

Hi Stacy, Build My Rank alone won’t be enough and it might get you some great rankings but they will eventually drop unless you keep building BMR links which can be very time consuming (if you are doing it yourself) or very expensive if you are outsourcing it out.

I would recommend you add at least one blog network to the mix. You need more than just one type of links.

I would also suggest you change your mindset a little. How many business do you know of that are waiting to see a profit before they invest money? None, and the good thing about internet marketing is that you really don’t need to invest too much. I can assure you that by putting some money in before you see a great return and taking the risk can go along way. It worked wonders for me.

Hi Dave,

If I were to purchase articles from the Ultra Spinnable Marketplace and plug them into UAW, do you think that would be a good place to start, in addition to the BMR posts I’m already doing?

How many Ultra Spinnable Articles do you think I might need to use in a month if I’m using them with UAW? Right now, I am mainly focusing on one website which has lots of articles on it, but I have about 6 or 7 pages that I really want to rank for.

I don’t mind spending the money but I do want to have an idea of what it is going to cost me ahead of time. One thing I know for sure is that I don’t need to keep buying information products which just drain my bank account. I’d rather spend my money on the right tools to get the job done.

Thanks,

Hi Stacy,

UAW would be a great place to start. You can also start with ArticleRanks and since you say you only have one website than it will also be cheaper than UAW. I can’t really say how many article you will need but you don’t have to start with a monthly membership, you can just signup for free and purchase credits and buy relevant articles with those credits and start submitting them to the network you decided to join.

Thanks for the quick response! I have spent the last week trying to refine down a link building strategy for new AdSense minisites campaign. I feel pretty good sbout where im at with keyword research and site building ( except for content outsourcing which I’m not satisfied with. Good, hell decent, content is an art).

I have built 11 sites and now I need to backlink them as cheaply but effectively as I can figure out how. The goal of the initial SEO campaign is to just do enough to see if they will rank and the ones that do pay more attention to and money on. It’s hard to figure out the balance of how much to spend on what technique when as its so easy to blow tons of money on SEO :) .

Theoretically I think if I pick low enough competition keywords I shouldn’t need a lot of back links to rank. So on that assumption I think I’m going to try some limited social bookmarking using SocialADR (mostly for diversity), Article builder articles on Authority Link Network and maybe Article Marketing Robot. Then if the site ranks add Build My Rank and possibly OnlyWire. If you have any thoughts on this I’d appreciate it

Hi Akbar,

Since this page is titled “what’s working now”, I only list the things that I am currently using and working for me now.

SENuke X is great and I had great success with it and the previous version but I recently decided to stop using it and see how it will work and so far it works great and I don’t find myself missing it. Since I have a full time VA working for me on link building I don’t really need such an automated system for building links as my VA is already saving me the time I used to spend on link building.

Hello Dave
Can you use OptimizePress for building affiliate review pages?
Thanks.

Hi Antony, you can use Optimizepress to create an affiliate review site although I didn’t try to do so myself. I only used it to build a sales or opt-in pages.

Hi Dave,
Firstly thank you for always helping me out with your knowledge and experience. Now I read your post on “blog networks being squashed by google” so are you still using them or you will update your “What’s working now list”? Also as this topic is very hot, other day I got a mail from Jonathan Leger explaining about the recent hooplah around blog networks. What is your say on that? I am sure you also must have got his mail! Also is article builder still effective? I mean content is still unquie as at was earlier?

Thanks,
Akbar

Hi Akbar,

I’m still using UAW and AR. Put ALN on hold but i’m testing it for now since they released ALN 2.0 and made some changes. The biggest change I made is that I don’t link directly to my money sites from the blog networks for now. But i’m still using them.

I did get the mail from Jon Leger and I really think he said it best. I’m actually in the middle of writing my own post about that now :)

Article Builder and the Ultra Spinnable Articles are still the best sources for spun content and I still use both.

Hi Dave,

Your product reviews are always the best ones in making a decision to purchase them. Would request you to please review Edwinsoft’s latest offering “Ultimate Demon” which looks very promising… Have you used it yet?

Best Regards,
Akbar

They opened up Traffic Kaboom again. Do you still use this tool? If you do what is the best place to get spun content?

Hi Donnell, I’m not using this network right now and i’m not sure that the regular spun content will work for you with this network. They are very strict with the quality of the content and last time I used it the USA’s and article builder articles didn’t make the cut and as far as I know, they are much more strict now.

After pengium updates what will you say about blog networks as u suggest article ranks and unique article wizard?

My general recommendation for post penguin would be to avoid using popular and open blog networks to create links directly to your own money sites. I still use both but mainly for creating links to my 1st tier sites. When it comes to blog networks post penguin, I think it is better to use little private blog networks for creating links to your own money sites but most of us don’t really have access to these type of networks (which is exactly what makes them good).

Thank you for the list Dave, one other great source for article writing is Ineedarticles.com from Jonathan Leger, good content and cheap as well.

What do you think is better? unique article wizard or backlicnk beast? d0 you have any experienced with backlink beast?

Hi Samir, I never used Backlink Beast so I can’t really say much about it.

Keep in mind that both MNF and Market Samurai are only tools. There is no magic involved and they will not provide you with great keywords with a click of a button, you still need to be able to find those keywords and you would also be able to do it without any of these tools. They are only intended to make that task take less time.
